I am so excited to be teaching First Grade at The Academy. This is My ninth year at the Academy and my sixth year teaching First grade.
On a personal note...
I was born and raised in Minnesota, lived in Albuquerque and Arizona for a spell and have been in Colorado for twenty years.
I met my husband at Pomona High School in Arvada and have been married for 22 years. We have three children. Tylor who is currently serving in our United States Air Force. He is in Okinawa, Japan with his wife and my beautiful Grand daughter Evelyn! My Middle daughter Brianna is working and attending FRCC in the Fall. My youngest daughter Cailey just graduated and is headed off to Arizona.
My interests are in anything outdoors! I love to run, hike and play at the park. My favorite activities are eating and reading.
My classroom approach is "firm but fair"! I use a Love and Logic approach to guide students to make the best choices for themselves. I always tell parents that I will love your child like they are my own. That means I will praise them, encourage them and have high expectations for them every day! I build in a lot of movement and Brain breaks into my lessons to not only promote a healthy body but a healthy mind!
In my class I show my students that they are loved and valued every day with special lunch dates, weekly show and Tell spotlights, class parties that they can earn and a Treasure box filled with treats and treasures for positive reinforcement when our Core values and Character traits are displayed!
First grade homework policy states that we require 20 minutes a night in reading, writing and Math.
Some Special days to look forward to are our 3 field trips! We will be going to the Zoo, Aquarium and the Museum of Nature and Science. In addition, First grade students celebrate a Mexican Fiesta at the end of our unit on Mexico.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
